Does this hat fit you?Now more than ever is the time. To say what we know and do what we say. True pedagogs. To persuade. Not soothe. Or assuage. To be and bring sophistication to baseness inside and out, without condescension, but without compromise. Everyone's children's lives at stake. How much do we make. Outrage as dignity. I grieve, I'm laying low. For just a minute. To breathe. Through many people and many moments in life though, I know I've caught some of these essential messages, roadsigns. They all must incarnate and infuse every day life. Listen to the elders. Listen to the kids. Simply to deal with the facts. I must hold myself accountable - and watch carefully the anonymous hand of furious masses led by dogs and barking ideals. I know the blessings, and the pitfalls, of dreams and nightmares. It's up to you & me to participate in the fabric of the culture of our time - to break up with machiavelli code of the "vulgar kings on their dirty thrones", of false gods and ambitious silence, of cheap sweatshop shortcuts, of the cold mythology of the user-friendly handshake, gringo santa in a pin-stripe suit, never really looking at it in the eye. Wring your hands and eat if your nails for a moment if you need to - I do. To shed a tear then meet here and now with a smile, for one as all. Loving each other as one carries us through the battles I cannot fathom. I can't just shake my head eternally and profess my sorrow on Facebook. There is much to say in the face of the social-media commentors' hallucinatorium... In the face of a sheer sense of unknowing of an obvious path in this new/old jungle - but this is first about what we ARE to DO. And how. And why. Women have been telling us. Indigenous people have been telling us. Racialized people have been telling us. LBTQ2S people have been telling us. The displaced. The landlocked. The trafficked. The silenced. All sharing stories of an unacknowledged violence. Can you feel it. Through the brouhaha of amped-up brutes, of dishonorable men. Through the military rhythms of packaged distraction programs. Through fragile and angry white men crying foul in all our eardrums. Listen for the whisper. Or the slow roar. The rising tide. Ye of the tribe of true hearts! Given to listen, to share, to create and initiate and propose and reinvent. "We teach what we have to learn". Now is the time, more than never. For poetry not to muddy the water. The future is my daughter. This baby knows how to swim. I'm working on an action plan. Love. Take care of yourself, and of the people that are in your life. xx
